Me: It’s something special.
Laylee: What IS it? Is it an envelope?
Me: It’s a special paper for your baby.
Laylee: What IS it?
Me: It’s your Cabbage Patch Kid’s birth certificate.
Laylee: Is it in an envelope?
Me: Yes.
Laylee: OH! (pulling it from the envelope) What IS it?
Me: It’s your baby’s birth certificate.
Laylee: Iiiiiii think it’s a big napkin.
Me: That’s why you don’t have access to the family records.

Oh, I remember well the day I opened my own certificate about 20 years ago. And just last Christmas, out of guilt I think, my brothers bought Milly one b/c they had destroyed mine years earlier. And to open that gift certificate again brought back all those motherly feelings that I was really adopting this new baby who needed a home!!!!
