Sleepy Little Chauvinist

Until recently, Magoo has woken up every night of his life at least once to nurse. Sheesh! What a BABY! When I couldn’t nurse him for a few days, we decided that Dan should be the one to get up with him in the night and offer a bottle.

The first night Dan was supposed to get up with him, Magoo slept 13 hours through the night with nary a peep. He has not woken up since. Well, that didn’t sound right. He wakes up every morning. He just doesn’t wake up in the night anymore.

On the one hand, it makes me think that he must really like me and only wants to get up if he thinks I’ll be there for some cuddlin’. On the other hand, I wonder if I’m raising a little chauvinist who thinks men should not be troubled with unmanly things such as child-care and feeding.

Further evidence of this theory is found here. When Dan tries to feed him, he falls instantly into a narcoleptic state.

I let Chris in on my little secret for getting your baby to drop the late night feeding and it appears to have worked for her too. I’m thinking of conducting a seminar or writing a book on the subject.

After reading this, Dan informed me that Magoo HAS woken up a few times in the night since Daddy took over the graveyard shift. How was I supposed to know? I was asleep.

The movie of DYD feeding Magoo had me practically in tears, I was laughing so hard. And ditto “If you’re happy and you know it pretend-to-pet-a-hamster”. Awesome story!

  2. Mel says:

    That is hilarious!

  3. Pam in Utah says:

Wow, funny story. Sure loved both videos. Enjoyed the link to Chris, too. Very funny.

  4. Trivial Mom says:

So did he fall asleep while he was nursing but keep eating, just like he does here? That is just so cute to watch him fall asleep but want to keep eating!

  5. Kelly says:

That is too funny. He is so cute just being all half asleep and trying to act interested in eating. And. The music in the background. You can sooo tell that you are a film major! I wish I knew how to add music to the background of my videos…..

Pretty much at this point I am sure there is nothing that you can’t do.

  6. HolyMama! says:

ha! my husband probably thinks our kids sleep through the night.

i love it that your sidebar has a thing called ‘who do those mormons think they are?’ oh, i love that. (informative, too)

  7. Love it so much I could hug you. I love how tired he is SO much!

  8. Kristen says:

Don’t you love it when they fall asleep into their food? That is the best. I too video those moments. How the hell else are we going to get them back at age 15 for the late night feedings?

  9. Chris says:

    So so funny.

We are on night three here.

THREE NIGHTS OF SLEEP! He did wake up a tiny bit, but I ignored it and he went right back to sleep in under 5 minutes.

  10. kate says:

Get. Out. The little man is eating yogurt in his sleep?!? I can understand falling asleep at the breast, but in the high chair eating yogurt? Priceless!

  11. Nettie says:

So is THAT the secret? Jazz music and yogurt! Hmmmm, perhaps we should add that to the bedtime routine…

  12. ABC Momma says:

    Great music! Cute kid.

  13. owlhaven says:

Kathryn, This is exactly howe we’ve handled it with most of our kids still waking past age one….when it’s not mom, they tend to sleep! The newly arrived adopted ones have needed a little more mom time, but that’s OK too…

    Mary, mom to many

  14. Eli's Mom says:

    LOVE the video…

  15. Grammy says:

Oh, my little Magoo-miester is a sleep eater! That is totally cracking me up. I fear for what he will do in his sleep once he is totally amulatory. That is about the cutest thing ever! Love him & the rest of yous too.

  16. Karen says:

LOVE that video and the jazzy music. Too much fun.

  17. kfk says:

    Love that video!

  18. I loved that video! Soo cute. It’s like that here too. I’ll moan and groan about our son being so demanding but everytime Daddy watches him, he’s an angel of course. Then Daddy thinks that Mommy’s a cry-baby! Oh, I read about your theory on keeping the little guys asleep at night over at Chris’. Pretty funny! LOL! I have another theory that I posted awhile back that you might consider:) heh, heh. It’s under my post titled “Social sercices?” Oh and I went and adopted me a cyber hamster just so I can pet him…. he he!

  19. Addie says:

Isn’t it amazing how we moms wake up at the first little peep…until we know someone else will do it for us, and then we sleep like the DEAD!

I’m glad you’re getting a little sleep over there!

  20. My friend had to get a job, and her mother in law had to watch her baby boy because he would not except a bottle from a man. Her husband was home with the other two children, but not the baby. Weird huh?

  21. “LOOK DEEP into this spoon. You are feeling sleepy….”

  22. HangerMom says:

With my oldest, she slept most of the way through the night by about 3 months, but I would feed her at 5:30 or so every morning before I got ready for work. At about four months I had to go out of town overnight, so instructed my husband to make sure he fed her in the morning to keep the routine up. I called him that morning at 8:00 to see how things were going, and woke him up. He hadn’t set an alarm expecting the daughter to wake him, but both were still asleep! To this day I say that he probably just slept through her fussing, but it was always like that. If I wasn’t there to feed her, she didn’t care to eat. And didn’t wake up at all. No fair!

    The video is TOO cute!

  23. Those vidoes are too cute! I’m still giggling.

  24. Carrie says:

    That was way too cute!

  25. Margaret says:

SOOOOO cute! I knew turkey had that stuff in it that makes you fall asleep, but yogurt?! Go go gadget Daring Young Scientists! 🙂

I have a nephew who does (did?) that, too. Even over ice cream, and it is HYST.ERICAL.

  26. Alissa says:

even my 4 yo was laughing at Magoo! You rock! As do your methods.

  27. beth says:

I love the point when he is just done and cannot go on. When I stopped sleeping next to my son and Dad took over for most of the wakings the number of times he woke up dropped by half. Still not nearly through the night, but a significant improvement. You may have inspired me to just stay out of there all night to see what happens…

  28. emlouisa says:

I’m LOVING the sleeping video. So much that I interrupted dh’s homework and he is not happy with either of us right now.

  29. Queen Beth says:

    Ok…that was just stinkin’ hilarious!

  30. krista says:

oh god. that is almost as funny as the crawling video.

  31. Caryn says:

That’s adorable–but watching him fall asleep made me sleepy!

  32. Rose says:

Don’t feel so bad, my five month old does the same thing. I fight so hard to get my husband to help me, and tell him how our spoiled little girl is only happy if I’m walking around the house with her. Then when it’s his turn to watch her, she sleeps! It’s like a different child! What kind of magical powers do dads have?!
