Our house backs up against a levee so we have people walking back there and looking in at us all the time. I thought nothing of it until my MIL was shocked that they were actually looking in our yard. I had to tell her that it’s what we do when we walk on the levee too. Like Kittyhox, we only critique nicely though. If we don’t have anything nice to say we talk about the birds and other critters in the nature area on the river side of the levee.

One of my favorite family traditions is that after Thanksgiving we all take a walk. We don’t do this for the exercise. We don’t do this for the opportunity to chat. We do this so that, as we walk, we can look in people’s windows and see what they’re doing. Just from the sidewalk, of course. We also critique their homes and yards, but in the nicest possible way, of course.

A neighbor brought us a plate of cookies one year near Christmas, but I had never met her, and I didn’t actually know who she was. I was afraid to eat the cookies and threw them out. The next year when she came I said. “Who are you?” Then I felt stupid when she pointed to the house across the street. At least we can recognize each other at the post office now. It was one of those things where we waved and etc, but never met face to face before, and I never got a good enough look to recognize her. I should have been peeking in her windows I guess.

That is so funny! We have new neighbors too after not having neighbors for 5 years and we don’t know how to act either. I dread going out and watering the flowers because I am sure they are looking at me. I try to angle myself to make my butt look smaller. How stupid is that?

You could leave a baby monitor outside their window so you can hear what they really think of you.
