Wigging Out

Glamor Shot! I’ve had a few comments about my new profile picture over at Parenting.com. What?! I actually had a decent photo taken of myself to use as a bio picture when I write and attend conferences?! I’m no longer using the 2-year-old picture of myself makeup-free, crouched by the door at my in-laws’ house cropped close so you couldn’t see the kids snuggled up to me?!

My sister Becky is a photographer and she took me and the kids into the studio for an impromptu photo session while we were in Utah. We had a blast and came out with some great shots, although I sort of wish I’d thought to wash Magoo’s face and lose 30 lbs beforehand. I also wish Dan had been there. She’s a great photographer, eh? (Mouse over the photos for commentary.)

I DID get my hair cut and colored a few days before. I went in for highlights and had been so impressed with the hairdresser’s style that I told her to do whatever she wanted. She gave me bangs and made me blonde. It’s not something I would have ever been brave enough to ask for but I really love it. This is the first time since Junior High that I’ve had bangs I liked.

When Laylee saw me, she said, “You don’t look like my mom!”

The truth is I look like her mom with a wig on her head. But it’s a good wig, a wig I enjoy wearing, a wig I probably can’t afford to upkeep for very long. It’s fun.

I was teaching my 9-year-olds at church today and they were sort of blown away by the transformation. One little girl kept repeating, “You look SO different.” Finally I told her, “Yeah, it’s different but we’ll get used to it.”

“No,” she said, “I will NEVER get used to it.”

Okay.
Where's Dan? Maybe I'll photoshop him in.

Love the photos. She is a great photographer!

  4. Liz says:

you do look fabulous as a blonde with bangs!

(but I still like the old picture too)

i love the photos. they show off your mommy glow. it is obvious how much you enjoy your kids and adore them.

it’s always fun to have a new do. that is, if you like the do. and this one is great. who cares if the kids in primary will NEVER get used to it. 🙂

  10. Kat says:

You look great! By the way, my son Dean has the same shirt as Magoo!

  11. rebekah says:

I just had maternity photos taken this past weekend (on my site if someone is curious) and I love it when you have pictures that make you look like you feel. Your pics are adorable! They always are, even my hubs loves to read your blog (secretly I know) and see the pictures you post.

  12. Stephanie says:

I just love Magoo’s big round head.

  13. Shalee says:

My lands, you’re adorable to the nth degee… even if you’re in a wig. You’re kids are pretty cute too, but we knew that already.

That last picture belongs above a fireplace mantle or something…

You guys are so cute! I love the hair and green is a great color on you. Great pictures!

  17. chilihead says:

Girl, you look awesome. I love the color. I don’t care what you have to sell to keep up that look. Do it. 😉

  18. Those pictures are fabulous!! How great to have such talent in the family. (And such talent in your hair stylist – ’cause your hair looks all kinds of fabulous too!)

  19. KYouell says:

Once I saw the photos with the kids I could see why that color looks so good on you… it’s like theirs. I would love to get my hair colored like my son’s. Some days it’s blond, some days it’s more red, some days it’s more brown. I think I need that touch ‘o red and blond in my boring brown hair. But I’m very afraid of the upkeep required. Especially when I love my bangs but can’t keep them up. It seems self-trims between poopy diapers are all I can manage right now.

  20. Wendy says:

    You look FABULOUS, dahling!

  21. I am in love with your new look and photos! So fabulous!

  22. Jen says:

Your hair says “summer is coming!”

  26. Carrie says:

  27. Carrie says:

    I love those.

Your sis is a brilliant photographer, but then, she had a BEAUTIFUL subject, YOU!

I love that last one the best.

  28. mother of the wild boys says:

The pictures are gorgeous, and the primary kids will just have to get used to the new do! 🙂

  29. Jen says:

Love the new look and the pictures are really great!

  30. Elise says:

Great pictures!!! We are so glad the “Office” is back on too. Love the picture of Dan in the last post….too funny!

  31. looking fabuloso, my dear. Great shots with the kiddos, too. Green definitely works for you!

  32. You’re little nine-year old student better get used to it, it’s a great cut and color job!

  33. My favorite picture? In the set of six, I like the last one of the three of you. Your children look characterisitc but not posed, and you look busily happy.

  34. Melissa says:

I think I subconsciously wait *on purpose* to get my hair done, so that I get the “you look different mom…..ya know, pretty”. Love the pictures 🙂

  35. Heidi says:

When I was pregnant with my third, I guess I wore my hair in ponytails a lot.

I wore it down one day and my daughter said, “You don’t look like my real mommy anymore.”

No? That’s because I am forty pounds heavier than your real mommy and I just feed you cold hot dogs instead of real food like your real mommy would. But don’t worry. Real mommy will be back eventually.

  36. Cheetah says:

It’s just the way I remember you! That is what your hair is JUST like.
