In Honor Of Danny Gokey

It’s been just months now that I’ve been waiting for an excuse to post this video, what I like to think of as the best music video ever made. You have to watch to the end. It’s worth it.

I have to say though that I’m not sure that Danny appreciated the dramatical nature of the material. His timing on the pregnant pause just before singing “–HELLO!” just did not move me the way Mr. Richie’s always has. That could be why he only came in 3rd place.

*For my mom and other non-American-Idol viewers. Danny Gokey, the third runner up this year, sang this song on the season finale tonight, thus giving me the needed excuse to share this nugget of YouTube goodness with the world.*

I love how she’s blind. It brings a human element (like blindness) to this video. It’s like he has really been dreaming of her every night and so naturally he would then prank call her, in the middle of her braille studies. Thank you for posting this, I think this one tops “Ballerina Girl”, and that’s hard to do.

  2. Melinda says:

    HELLO!

That was awesome. I just love Lionel Richie (non-ironically AND ironically).

    Thanks for the memories.

I couldn’t believe Kris won, but was glad – I wish it had been the two of them in the final. Thought they had the best emotional voices.

  4. Stephanie says:

    Oh, gag. That is hilarious.

  5. ZaCarrie says:

Someone needs to tell him that calling someone late at night, singing “Hello!” into the phone and then hanging up isn’t as romantic as he thinks.

And I don’t get it. Does he know her at the beginning? Because it seems to ME that he is just watching her from a distance. But then she goes and makes a sculpture of his head. Obviously they’re acquainted…

And what’s up with Billy Boy? Did he ever move to the West?

Oh, Lionel, you always keep me guessing.

  6. I never noticed this when I watched the video in high school, but this time I was completely icked out that he’s stalking his student! Am I the only one that finds the concept … well, icky?

  7. Becky says:

    Wow….
Wow…Lionel Richie is a glorified stalker just like Edward Cullen.

  8. Beck says:

That whole video is just a magical parade of wrong. I like to sing Hello at m husband, who doesn’t appreciate it as much as you might think. Perhaps I should phone him at work and then hang up.

  9. Jennifer L. says:

Have you seen the Starburst commercial that parodies this video? The sculpture is made of Starburst and the guy eats off the nose. Hilarious.
